Say my name....

Rj, this past Saturday, for the first time ever you said your own name. You said it over and over that night as we made a fuss over it. Since then, whenever we ask what your name is, you just keep putting both hands on your chest. :-) We had two parties this past Sunday, and you really wore out me, your mom and both your grandmothers. You just keep wanting to explore more and more, and going up and down steps fascinate you. The problem is, you are not just content in going up and down the steps, in the way that most toddlers do, you want to try to go up and down like we do. Going up is ok, going down.....not so much, luckily we have been there to catch you. You are starting to spoon feed yourself, although after a while you resort to using your hands and fingers. You seem to like avoid going to sleep by asking for drinks. We are still not sure if you are really that thirsty, or if you are trying to kill time so you do not have to go to sleep. Hats, and Sesame Street are your big things right now. Elmo and Cookie monster are big hits, and you trying to say cookie (in the cookie monster voice) is very entertaining. You have also started doing a sssshhh shound after you scream, taking a page from me and your mom you try to ssshh you after you scream. You like to make a game out of everything, even the simplest things. You can not just come and sit on my lap, you need to walk backwards and then fall backwards on to my lap. You are developing quite the little personality, and like to be the center of attenton. If you are not, you do whatever you can to draw attention to yourself. (ps I seem to have the same affliction) You continue to want to touch things we keep telling you not to, ie our computers, our phones our remotes etc.... Our saying no seems not to deter you, but only serve as a challengs. I catch you with the remote, you throw it on the ground and runaway like you had nothing to do with it. You are so smart, and continue to test the limits, especially my limits. The funny thing is that I always thought myself to be too selfish to be a dad, and that is still a very real fear I have, but you continue to teach me and challenge me to become a better person and parent. Someone who makes me want to be better than what I am. And for that I thank you.

Too Much Time Has Gone By

RJ, I apologize for not updating this more frequently. Life has been kind of hectic since my last post. You have been in day care 2 days a week for the last 3 months. You would think that would have freed up some more time for me to update this, but it really hasn't. You may want to know what else I am doing with my time, well between real estate and then also I was appointed to Reading City Council. I will tell you more about that when you get older...... So what is new with you. You are becoming a little tazmanian devil, into everything, very fast, and leaving a mess in your wake. You have started doing sign language, you tell us you are hungry, thirsty, you want more, say please, and all done using signs. You are not a man of many words yet, you are starting to say words like all done, upstairs, down, yeah sometimes juice, and tonight you added car to your vocabulary. A funny story from tonight that I will be sure to use against you for years to come, today you wanted a drink, you had water in your cup, you wanted no parts of the water. I took your cup and gave you some juice with the water. You still carried on, still thinking it was water in the cup. I showed you the juice, you smiled and let out the biggest "oh" and drank the cup of juice. What else is new with you? You are quite the little tease at this age. You like to reach out for us, then pull your arms down and run away. You also love to act like you are going to give us something, then pull it away at the last moment. You wear out your grandmothers every visit, and love to explore every nook and cranny of their homes. You are so curious about everything around you. You want to touch everthing. Speaking of touch, we took you to the Please Touch Museum on our anniversary. You had a blast and were worn out after a couple hours. You seemed most interested in the super market and mixing foods. The first thing you picked at the super market was tastykakes krimpets. A son after my own heart. You love sliding boards at this age and had your first ride on a swing over the weekend. You have had your first two sleepovers away from Mommy and Daddy. You first was with Uncle Rob, Aunt Dianna, Robby, and Kelsey. YOur second was with the Kentons, Eileen, Rick, Brittany, Briana, and Kyle. You did so good with both and were a very good boy, (and sleeper) both times. You have been finger feeding for a while now, however you are getting quite good with the fork and spoon (although you seem to always want to fall back on the fingers, even with applesauce). You are getting so independant, you are no longer happy with us feeding you, you want to do it all yourself. It has been an amazing year and a half so far, and there are much more good times to come. You continue to bring so much happiness to everyone you know. You are developing quite the little personality, usually very happy, but also wanting more and more to do things your way. I promise I will try to keep this more up to date. I hope that this will bring as many smile to your face when you are older and get to read this as you have brought to mine.
